Helen Spencer

Helen joined the practice in 2017 and feels its an absolute pleasure to work at such a highly commended practice, treating patients from the community she lives in. Her main goal as a dental hygienist is to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their treatment, to listen to their needs and do her upmost to accommodate them. She particularly enjoys building a rapport with the patients, earning their trust and confidence and watching their oral health improve at each appointment.

“My dental career started at the Eastman Dental hospital where I qualified as Dental Nurse in 2006 and I was given the TARGET award for outstanding teamwork.

In 2009, I qualified from the Eastman Dental hospital as Dental Hygienist/Dental Therapist with distinction from the Royal College of Surgeons and was awarded the Carol Chivers memorial award for my care and compassion towards my patients.

I am fortunate to have worked in the paediatric department of the Royal London Dental Hospital as a dental therapist, providing treatment such as extractions and restorations for children with dental anxiety and patients with disabilities. I have also worked in the private sector as a hygienist alongside some of the leading periodontal specialists at practices in Harley street and Wimpole street in London and closer to home in Tunbridge Wells and Petts Wood.

In 2012, I undertook an audit on Hall Technique stainless steel crowns, patient compliance and perspective which I later had published in the Paediatric Journal of International Dentistry 2013. I won the Dental Care Professional Poster Prize at the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry in 2013 in Edinburgh for my leaflet on stainless steel crown placement which is used across the Barts Health Trust.

In 2013 I qualified in the SAAD inhalation sedation training, which meant I can offer my anxious patients an extra technique to help make their experience a comfortable and calming one.

In 2019 I undertook Laser training for certain periodontal conditions to aid treatment.

I now live in Petts Wood with my husband and two young children and particularly love the homely family village feel it has.”

Outside of work I enjoy going for walks with my family, painting and craft activities.
